HIV

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a disease that targets and weakens the body’s immune system in order to reproduce. Although incurable, medicines are now available which make it possible to lead a relatively normal life, although changes to sexual behaviour will be required to avoid passing on the virus. Diagnosing and treating the virus early on can ensure life expectancy is not shortened.

It is possible that you have no symptoms after contracting HIV or you may experience flu-like symptoms 2-6 weeks afterwards. This is known as sero-conversion illness with symptoms including:

  • A fever lasting more than a few days
  • Headaches
  • Aching limbs
  • Mouth ulcers
  • Diarrhoea
  • A rash all over the body

Testing for HIV is a quick process and should be done as soon as possible if you are unsure about whether you have contracted it. If you would like to get tested, give us a call on 02074991581.
