ECG

An Electrocardiogram Test is an investigative tool used to monitor the electrical activity of the heart. It is commonly used on those suspected of having coronary heart disease, heart attacks, arrhythmia or cardiomyopathy. Your chances of developing any of these issues can be influenced by several factors including:

  • Obesity
  • High Blood Pressure or Cholesterol
  • Smoking
  • Diabetes
  • Large amounts of alcohol consumption

An ECG may be undertaken for a number of reasons. The most common is when symptoms of a heart issue are present, such as:

  • Chest Pain
  • Dizziness
  • Shortness of breath

Alternatively, ECGs are used when someone has had their blood pressure measured repeatedly and it has remained elevated. It can then help doctors decide whether further investigation or treatment is required. Employers and insurance companies may want a cardiac test done before employment or issuing a policy.
